On job training to officials from Mauritius on PFZ Services

Overview:

This on-the-job training program is specifically designed for officials from Mauritius to enhance their understanding of Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) services. The training covers scientific principles, satellite data utilization, PFZ algorithm development, product generation, validation techniques, and dissemination mechanisms. It includes hands-on sessions with real-time satellite data processing and exposure to the operational infrastructure at INCOIS.

Aims and objectives:

  • Build capacity to apply ocean observing data for enhanced forecast and prediction capability in the region.
  • Introduce remote sensing data products used in PFZ advisories (SST, Chlorophyll).
  • Demonstrate end-to-end processing: data acquisition, algorithm application, product generation.
  • Share best practices in PFZ communication and feedback mechanisms with fishers.
  • Encourage mutual learning and capacity building for implementation in Mauritius.

    • Learning Outcomes:

    • Understand PFZ science and its application in small-scale fisheries.
    • Gain hands-on experience in satellite data processing and interpretation.
    • Learn operational workflows and decision-making tools used at INCOIS.
    • Explore methods to adapt PFZ services for regional implementation in Mauritius.
