INCOIS, Hyderabad, India.

Overview:

The Advanced Oceanography Course is a 4-month comprehensive training program designed for Navy officers. The course aims to provide in-depth knowledge and operational expertise in various domains of oceanography, including physical, dynamical, satellite, numerical modeling, wave forecasting, instrumentation, and data analysis. Delivered through expert lectures, hands-on sessions, and real-time applications, this program enhances the participants' capabilities in understanding and using oceanographic information for maritime operations.

Aims and objectives:

  • Provide in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in various branches of oceanography relevant to naval operations.
  • Enhance understanding of physical and dynamical oceanographic processes and their impact on maritime activities.
  • Develop skills in interpreting and utilizing satellite oceanographic data for operational use.
  • Train participants in numerical ocean modelling and wave forecasting techniques.
  • Introduce advanced oceanographic instrumentation and methods for data acquisition and validation.
  • Strengthen capabilities in data analysis, interpretation, and decision-making based on oceanographic information.
  • Promote the use of operational oceanography in planning and executing maritime missions.
  • Facilitate exposure to real-time oceanographic applications and services for defense and strategic operations.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary learning and application of ocean science in support of naval objectives.
  • Learning Outcomes:

    • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of physical, chemical, and dynamical oceanographic processes.
    • Analyze and interpret oceanographic data from in-situ and satellite observations for operational applications.
    • Apply numerical models for ocean circulation, wave forecasting, and environmental prediction.
    • Utilize oceanographic instruments and technologies for data collection and validation.
    • Evaluate the influence of oceanographic conditions on naval operations and maritime security.
    • Integrate multi-source oceanographic data to support mission planning and tactical decision-making.
