"2nd National Science Workshop on Indian Ocean Biogeochemistry"
during 07-09 April, 2025
Organized by
International Training Centre for Operational Oceanography (ITCOocean)
INCOIS, Hyderabad, India.

Overview:

The 2nd National Science Workshop on Indian Ocean Biogeochemistry, aims to build on the momentum generated by the first national workshop held in April 2023 at CMLRE, Kochi. This initiative brings together experts from multiple Indian institutions working on various aspects of oceanography to deepen the understanding of the biogeochemistry of the Indian Ocean. Approximately 50 scientists from fields such as observational oceanography, numerical modeling, remote sensing, and paleoceanography are expected to participate.

Aims and objectives:

  • Identify key gaps and challenges in Indian Ocean Biogeochemistry research.
  • Discuss and refine the white paper titled “White paper on Identified Gaps, Challenges, Way-forward and Recommendations on Improvement of Biogeochemical models of the Indian Ocean through Observations and Data Synthesis.”.
  • Propose future research studies and collaborative initiatives.
  • Identify potential operational products that can be developed from current studies.
  • Explore funding opportunities from relevant agencies to support proposed research.
  • Align future scientific efforts with national programs such as the Deep-Ocean Mission and Mausam Mission.
  • Learning Outcomes:

    • Gain in-depth knowledge of recent advances and gaps in Indian Ocean biogeochemistry.
    • Contribute to the refinement of national strategic documents and white papers.
    • Collaborate across institutions to propose future research directions.
    • Understand how to translate research findings into actionable operational products.
    • Network with fellow researchers, fostering future collaborative projects.
    • Target Audience:

The target audience for this course :
